Unit 2 evaluation
I chose to do street photography because I found it the most appealing to me because I'm always out and about on the streets to take photos, I also found it the most challenging considering I can't take any of the photos inside school like everyone else, so every photo would be more like homework then coursework done in school.
AO1: I started this project by looking at work from Robert Frank, I didn't do much research or work on him but I liked hi photos when I first started, they were in black and white and captured some really cool things, I particularly like one of his photos that I just had to do the rule of thirds on the image and break it down to see the different parts of it and try to realise what the image is about. I then went onto looking at work from Eric Kim a really good street photographer who found it best to just capture day to day life in the streets of New York. Martha Cooper also played a massive part in my research into street photography, she really stood out to me as someone who knew what to capture, she was always their to capture the right thing at the right time, her work inspired me to take some of my first sets of images in this course. The most important person nearer to the end of the course was a peculiar photographer by the name of Nacho Ormaechea, he does his own style of street photography that inspired me to do both my final pieces based around his work, he captures images of people and then puts an image as them/as their clothing this is a silhouette that is really exciting and cool so I tried doing this for my final pieces.
AO2: I didn't really carry out any experiments for this I just got on with taking photos on the streets whenever I could. Nearer to the end of the project I did most of my work on photoshop and experimented on there with editing the images and even trying to merge the images I took together. I took this style from the photographer Nacho Ormaechea and experimented with his style of photography in my own way.
AO3: I have recorded all my research and ideas on my street photography unit 2 page, I have looked at many different photographers and tried to work around their work and touch upon it on my own photographs I took. Most my research was about Martha Cooper her work really inspired me to get out there and take photos in the streets of everything, just photograph everything and then come back later document them on the computer do some editing and see which ones really stand out to you.
AO4: Street photography is a very wide range of different styles, I tried touching upon some of my favourite street photographers and their work. I did all my work when it came to taking the photos outside of school and did all my research and evaluating inside of school, I tried doing most my work on Martha Cooper and her style of trying to capture the right things at the right time and document and evaluate them, I then tried doing all my editing based around the work of Nacho Ormaechea and his perculiar work with silhouettes.
I enjoyed this course it was very fun and challenging I liked pushing myself to go out into the world and try to capture everyday life and try to make it seem interesting and intriguing to others. I think I did very well in this course and done my best to succeed in my goal to capture and document day to day life. If I had more time the only thing I would improve is to take loads more photos and maybe experiment with more styles based around different street photographers style in their work.
